Throughout the last year our team has taken part in various fundraising events to help the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raise almost £30,000 for a surgical operating table. It was a hugely exciting year and we are already planning campaigns for 2019.

Why GOSH?

It is a family-focused charity which supports patients and parents through difficult times, whilst battling the most complex illnesses. Shepherd Compello was built on a family culture and in our 15th year in business we still remain a family-owned company, so we felt that this particular hospital is a great fit.

There’s more to the story though. Read about Ross – a son and a brother of two of our dear colleagues Paul (compliance officer) & Jamie (claims broker):

Our boy Ross and GOSH

The journey for any new born and their parents is always challenging and you may never know what the future may hold for them.  In 1993, our second son, Ross was born and from the moment he started to walk, his mother noticed something was not quite right.

After a number of confusions and mis-information a Professor at GOSH correctly diagnosed Ross with Proteus Syndrome http://www.proteus-syndrome.org.uk

This is a genetic disorder, which manifests itself in a number of ways and for Ross, meant that he had to face many consultants along the way with enduring surgical procedures, ranging from his leg and knee through to his hands. We reckon that Ross spent 15 years visiting GOSH and he now has moved on to adult care at the RNOH, Stanmore.

The care by the consultants and nursing staff was tremendous and we cannot wish Shepherd Compello enough success in their aim to raise funds for the GOSH Surgical Bed.

Here is a quick recap of our most successful 2018 fundraising events:

The Walkie Talkie Tower Climb

Money raised: £837

Steps climbed: 838 (that is 36 floors!)

A team of six brave volunteers have taken on a challenge of climbing the stairs, all 838 of them, to get to the famous Walkie Talkie Building gardens located at the top floor. They all made it to the finish line and raised an impressive amount of £837 to bring us another step closer to our target.

London to Brighton: 54-mile cycling challenge

Money raised: £540

Distance: 54 miles

Our compliance assistant & cycling aficionado, Lewis, took on an impressive challenge of raising £500 on his own by cycling 54 miles from London to Brighton. He exceeded everyone’s expectations not only by coming in first place in the race, but also by hitting 108% of his target.

#BakeItBetter Bake Sale

Money raised: £294 (including offline donations)

Bakes consumed: loads!

This event has attracted the attention of not only our dear colleagues, but also our neighbours from other 55 Gracechurch Street offices such as Royal London or Lee Hecht Harrison Penna. It was great to catch up with everyone over a cuppa and a piece of cake.

Charity Quiz Night

Money raised: £930

We invited our clients to a quiz night packed with a blend of high-brow humour and mind-bending puzzles presented by our North American Property broker & Quiz Master extraordinaire, Eddie Walter. Needless to say he did a marvelous job and has already confirmed that we will be back with this kind of events next year so please keep in touch.
